It’s been 14 years since Nathan Scott made his last game-winning shot or Lucas Scott wrote his final chapter. Still hundreds of passionate One Tree Hill fans, several in custom Tree Hill Ravens jerseys, packed the show’s panel at the Anaheim Nostalgia Con to reminisce with stars Chad Michael Murray and James Lafferty.
The former co-stars said their friendship remains strong, and Murray shared why he thinks One Tree Hill is ready for a comeback.
Chad Michael Murray wants a One Tree Hill reboot
In response to a fan question about a potential reunion, Murray made it clear he was ready for the show to return.
“I think there's a part of all of us that would love to give that to you,” he said. “This is not something you can just wave a magic wand at. There are many moving pieces and different stories to tell. And ways that the show could be adapted, and for you guys and for everybody, I do hope that there's some version of this show that does get made. I want it for you guys.”
One Tree Hill revival should deal with modern problems
The show developed a loyal following by tackling issues ranging from bullying to mental health to family dysfunction, and Murray believes a revival should address the challenges facing today’s teens.
“I want another Tree Hill generation to deal with current issues for the younger audience that can help them guide them and help them feel like they're not being led astray, from everything from the phone you're holding in your hand, living and being addicted to tech, to ruining your life on social media. To dealing with not feeling like you're in the right body to love. There's so many issues that we can deal with in a very loving and nurturing way on the show. I hope some version of this show comes to fruition someday.”
One Tree Hill revival stalled at Netflix
One Tree Hill fans experienced a flicker of hope in August, 2024, when Netflix announced it was developing a revival of the series focused on the characters of Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton Morgan, Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer, twenty years after the original series’s end.
However, progress appears to have stalled since the initial announcement, with no major updates.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight in March 2026, Bush implied that the show might be impacted by the recent dramatic changes in the media landscape, “I would say we’re all very aware of what’s happening to media right now and who media is being bought by, and I don’t know if any of us are the current media conglomerates' best friends or favorite people, but I’m okay with that. I’m patient if nothing else. That’s the classiest way I could say it.”
The show was originally produced by Warner Bros. Television, which is currently being acquired by Paramount.
Murray also opened up about the infamous One Tree Hill dog-heart scene.
